A
Private Investigators Frequently Asked Questions
HOW TO HIRE AN INVESTIGATOR AND WHAT TO ASK:
Most all states require a private investigator to be licensed
through the state they are working out of. Ask the PI for his license
as he/she should be able to produce one on demand.
It is a good idea to meet with the investigator who will be handling
your case. Investigators are experienced in interviewing and will
be able to get a better picture of the investigation, in person.
Like any other service, you should get a contract that defines the
matter of the business relationship you will be sharing. This way,
everyone knows what to expect from each other. If an investigator
can not or will not give you a contract, you are probably headed
for problems. However, certain situations may merit a contract to
be "in the works" until it is possilbe and reasonable
to procure.
It is important that you know the qualifications and experience
of the investigator that will be handling your case. Ask your investigator
about his or her background and case types he or she has handled.
In general, you will get what you pay for.
Remember that there are no guarantees of the outcome in an investigation.
We are brought in to find the facts of a matter and to document
them to the fullest extent.
Keep the fact that you are looking to hire or have hired a PI confidential.
Generally speaking people like to talk. This can be bad news for
your investigation. Remember that sometimes a person is their own
worst enemy.
